Paleoceanography - Last Glacial Maximum Conditions in Indian Subcontinent
Project File
This study examines the climate of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) using the NCAR CCSM4 global climate model and compares its simulations with data-based paleoclimate reconstructions. The simulation incorporates key LGM boundary conditions, including lower greenhouse gas concentrations derived from ice cores, orbital parameters from 21,000 years ago, reconstructed ice sheet topography, and altered shorelines and bathymetry reflecting lower sea levels.
Evaluating the ability of climate models to simulate past climates, such as the LGM, enhances confidence in their projections of future climate change. However, both models and paleoclimate reconstructions, which rely on proxy data from geological and paleontological records, have inherent uncertainties. This work explores how these models can both aid in interpreting paleoclimate data and identify areas for improvement in model performance and data interpretation.
